Church Farm Wirral

With an extra day this weekend, we took advantage and treked out and about to Church Farm in the Wirral. It’s about an hour away from us in Thurstaston but only 20 minutes from my parents which is where we stayed on Sunday night so we thought we’d pop in and and take a look.

Thurstaston is home to one of our favourite beaches so we’ve been heading out that way for as long as we’ve been together so it was a great surpise to us to realise that Church Farm even existed around the corner from one of our favourite places. On arrival we were given a little map and information guide along with activity schedule with our tickets. As a tractor barrel ride was leaving within minutes, we headed straight over that way and I’m so glad we did! It only lasted 5 minutes but both kids loved it as we took a lovely little ride around the animal fields and saw sheep, pigs, geese, miniture ponies and alpacas.

We loved it that much that on arriving back the the main centre of Church Farm, we headed out on a similar route to take a closer look at the animals. With stunning views across the Dee estury, it really was a lovely location to take a stroll and not only seek out the animals, but also the celebrity scarecrows which were set up as an additional adventure during your visit. There are 10 to find across the park and there was only 1 we didn’t manage to find during our visit. Added bonus was the similarity between Ed and the Highland Cow!

The highlights for us girls though was seeing the excited alpacas having their lunch delivered; made extra special by the fact that Darcie had chosen a Llama teddy to adopt into the family (read as fleeced my mum for) at the beginning of our visit so she loved watching the real ones eat their ‘yum yums’ – yes slightly different animals but you try explain that to a two year old! Henry on the other hand was far too busy being distracted / obsessed by the tractors. Anything with any kind of seblance to a tractor had this boy excited all day!

A quick tractor ride later out further into the farm and it was time for lunch. Luckily there is a coffee shop on site which sold a good range of lunchtime items such as teacakes and sandwiches. There were even a few pouches available for little ones which was a nice touch. With a big play area, it’s a great place to be able to sit down and enjoy some lunch while the kids continue to play.

We didn’t loiter though – mostly due to the rather impressive meltdown Darcie was having – so after lunch we headed back into the park and explored everything we hadn’t had chance to see yet. Such as the pedal tractors and the enormous sandpit which the kids loved but was aptly named “the beach” as it was so HOT in there! Some afternoon snacks on the green, some gorgeous pigmy goats and a play in the park completed our day.

All in all this is a great family day out which is good value for money. We thought it would be a quick hour or two on the way home, whereas in practice we spent over 4 hours there and could have spent longer if we didn’t have an overtired toddler on our hands that was getting rather emotional! There were things we didn’t get to try as our two were just too young for it such as crazy golf, go karts and a plank maze, but it’s good to know that there are things for bigger kids to enjoy there too. We’re just sad we missed the sheep racing at the end of the day as that just sounds hilarious!
