Giraffes & Hedgehogs with me&i

Autumn has arrived and I couldn’t be more pleased. I love the colours, the smells and the fact you get to snuggle up in warmer layers. This extends to the kids as I really think there is nothing cuter than seeing kinds wander around in autumn colours so when me&i got in contact to try out their new Autumn / Winter collection, it came at the perfect time for us.

For anyone who hasn’t heard of them before, me&i are a Swedish clothing company that work hard to design unique clothes that are not only comfortable, but also embrace the concept of fun and play. This is something that clearly comes across from the range on their website as it’s full of beautiful fabrics, bright colours and bold prints.

I wanted to embrace a little “twinning is winning” – not quite matching as they are of course different genders, but the same kind of style. Yes I know, the kids are going to hate me when they’re older. I went for a set of giraffe pants with matching bodysuit and then some hedgehog pants again with matching bodysuit. At this stage I didn’t have a child in mind for the clothes as I love that a lot of the me&i range are gender neutral and both kids are the same size at the moment despite being almost 2 years apart in age.

THE REVIEW

The clothes arrived just as the weather changed and everything cooled down. As the oldest, Darcie very quickly claimed the hedgehogs to wear for the day and took great glee in bending over and showing me her butt throughout the day. The fit seemed good – despite both kids having very different body shapes – and I loved that the giraffe pants had a turn up option on the legs as Henry is much shorter than Darcie even though they wear the same size.

As luck would have it, the day we wore the items first to test them turned out to be an action packed day.

First of all we had some conker collecting – we don’t have to go far as we have a few huge trees right outside the house – but it makes for some great fun as we wander around and collect our stash. Plenty of bending down, standing up, reaching for things and in Henry’s case, landing on his butt a lot as he was still finding his balance while toddling.

Next was our BippityBoppityBoo class in town – around 40 minutes away – which is a song and dance class. It’s full of follow me movements, lots of play with puppets, musical instruments and bubbles. It’s a pretty short class though so we managed to squeeze in a visit to Chester Zoo before we headed back home.

As always with my two, as soon as we got to the zoo they immediately wanted to go play. They headed straight to the madagascar PLAY section and before we knew it, we were up to our knees in sand!

THE VERDICT

I am incredibly impressed with the comfort and fit of these clothes. We left the house at 9am that day and didn’t get back home until gone 4pm in time for tea. We walked, played, crawled and got as physical as possible and all the while the clothes were not only bright, but also seemed to be so comfortable. They didn’t get in the way or restrict them at all which is a big plus for my two as they never seem to stop. They also got so many great comments – especially the giraffes at the zoo – and you could see that they were proud to be wearning their animals. Darcie informed me on more than one occasion that there was a hedgehog on her butt.

I did wonder how the the material would fair when we ended up in the sand, but I have to say I was so impressed and very pleasantly surprised. A quick brush off and you wouldn’t have thought my children were trying to bury themselves minutes before. In fact by the end of the day – it hardly looked like they had been worn at all.
