Exploring the British Ironwork Centre

On a random little road, not far from Oswestry is a little hidden treasure if you are in the area and nearby. The British Ironwork Centre is a wonderful sculpture park and shop which allows visitors to explore at their own pace and enjoy some of the fabulous works of art. It’s one of our local go to places when we have a few hours free, so we thought we would share a few of our highlights.

SHOPPING

Although technically a shop, the British Ironwork Centre is crammed full of everything iron. Filled to the rafters with items in all shapes, sizes and styles for both inside and outside the home. It is certainly a spectacle to behold. The kids love wandering around exploring what treasures are hidden and really have a great time slowly making their way around all the displays.

In addition to the shop, around the internal buildings there are a series of gallery displays of local talent which I think is a wonderful touch.

METAL SAFARI PARK

Once we’ve had a look around inside, we usually head out into the grounds which is where the British Ironwork Centre offers up something really special. Crammed full of even more goodies for the garden, this then opens up into a fabulous sculpture trail. The metal safari park is home to over 100 different animals ranging from farm animals to butterflies, and from deer to a fabulous – and enormous – silver back gorilla. I can guarantee that adults and little ones alike will enjoy taking a stroll around and viewing the stunning creations.

FACILITIES

Open 7 days a week, not only is there free parking in a substantial sized car park, but entrance to the ironwork centre is free too. However, a voluntary donation of £2 is always welcomed by the centre.

There is also a cafe onsite which serves a selection of items such as sandwiches, salads, pies and quiches alongside some hot light bites such as chips. There is also a fabulous selection of homemade cakes and chocolates which we may have had to test out. We can vouch that they are delicious!

If you don’t quite need a full lunch, then there is also a selection of ice creams on offer.

BRITISH IRONWORK CENTRE – OUR VERDICT

We love dropping in to visit the British Ironworks Centre when we have a few hours free. On a wet day there is plenty to explore inside and a lovely cafe to enjoy a pit stop at. However, the British Ironworks Centre really comes into its own on a sunny day when can explore the metal safari park. With wonderful things to see and plenty of space for little ones to run around and burn off some energy, it’s a great place to spend and enjoy a few hours.
