A Morning Coffee with the Squirrel Play Wooden Coffee Machine
There’s nothing better than waking up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee in the morning and being left quietly to enjoy the paper while you drink it. Granted I have to admit those days are a thing of the past now that we have two rather impressive balls of toddler / pre-school energy filling our (very early) mornings. That’s not to say I don’t get my morning coffee anymore, it’s just served a little differently these days.
Our little baristas have indeed been brewing up some coffee for me – along with their usual dose of trouble – with a little help from Smyths Toys who sent us this rather fabulous Squirrel Play Wooden Coffee Machine.
WHAT IS THE SQUIRREL PLAY WOODEN COFFEE MACHINE?
This is the cutest little set that comes complete with a coffee machine, coffee pot, bag off coffee and bottle of milk. This is all ready to be mixed and then served into 2x cups, saucers and spoons. Everything is complete to fill your play full of the fun of serving up a morning brew, you just need to add imagination.
The materials are natural, and the design is simple and stylish, making it very pleasing to the eye. I love the yellow / white / blue colour combination. It’s a beautiful set which feels strong and sturdy to hold and use.
WHAT DO WE THINK?
I’m a big fan of play food and drink things as I think you can’t go wrong with imaginative play for a little one’s development needs. Add in the fact that making and sharing food and drink also encourages sharing alongside the development of fine motor skills, and this was always going to be a winner for me. The fact that it is wooden and designed using natural materials was just the icing on what was already a rather great looking cake. The question is though, what did the kids think?
The answer is simply that both of them love it. Especially the Bear who at 4 years old is really enjoying this style of imaginative play and has played with this daily since it arrived. She takes time to open and close the lid, makes little noises as the pot fills, and then delights in putting all the ingredients together to make the perfect cup of coffee ready to serve in the cutest little cups.
Fun, pretty and great for development needs. What’s not to love.
SOUND GOOD? THEN HERE’S HOW TO GET YOUR OWN
You can get your hands on your very own wooden coffee machine on the Smyths website. With Christmas just around the corner, I would definitely recommend the Red Squirrel range. Beautifully made; I think there is something a little bit special (not to mention more sustainable) when it comes to wooden gifts.
This is a toy that will help spark your child’s imagination and keep them entertained for hours while they make you cups of coffee. Perfect practice for when they are older and can do the real thing!
