Adult Hat – free knitting pattern
I’ve been looking through my old knitting supplies and came across this simple pattern. I have no idea where it came from as I just found it scribbled in an old craft notebook. I could see it was some kind of hat, so I thought I would simply knit it up and see what I got.
It didn’t take long to knit up and I was left with a cute adult hat. A DK yarn weight combined with 5mm needles provides a nice and lightweight adult hat. The stockinette stitch gives it a rolled edge finish and a clean uniform appearance. The quick decrease gives it a gathered finish at the top making it a great match for a bobble finish.
MATERIALS
- 5mm needles
- DK yarn
THE PATTERN
- Cast on 84 stitches
- Row 1 – knit
- Row 2 – purl
- Rows 1 and 2 form pattern. Repeat until work measures 22cm from cast on edge.
- Start decrease
- k2tog until end (42 stitches)
- Purl
- k2tog until end (21 stiches)
- Purl
- k1, k2tog until end (11 stitches)
Thread yarn through remaining 11 stitches and close the top of the hat. Close side seam using mattress stitch.
Make a pom pom using this quick makes tutorial and fix to the top of the hat. And that’s it!! It really is a quick and easy pattern which makes a cute lightweigh hat. Why not give it a go yourself? I think I’ll give it another go myself, adding a little bit of colour by adding stripes!
