Guaranteed Boredom Busters For Children
This is a collaborative post. Thank you for supporting the posts which make this blog possible.
The summer holidays are almost upon us. Children all over the country will have more free time on their hands that they know what to do with, which is why we have come up with a few ideas to keep them entertained. Variety tends to be the key to success, so mix up outings with play dates with screen time and with some of the following activities. Have fun with these guaranteed boredom busters for children.
Toys and games
With so many toys on the market, it can be difficult to know what to go for. You might like to stick to traditional toys and go for train tracks, wooden or Lego building bricks, Melody Jane Dolls Houses or cars and car tracks. There are lots of collectible types of toys out there at the moment which can be fun, though it’s probably worth narrowing it down to just collecting one or two ranges otherwise it could get a bit much! Board games are always popular and it’s worth keeping several in so that you have a good variety of options.
Get crafty
Every young family should have craft supplies. You can then be as creative as you want to be whenever the mood takes you all. You can try anything from dinosaur crafts to face masks and everything in between. The fun thing about crafting is that you can either choose to make something specific or you can simply get all of the supplies out and see what your children come up with. Whatever they go for, they are bound to have fun making it.
Books, books and more books
Have a story afternoon. Visit the library or get out a pile of your own books and enjoy them. Your children might read alone or they might like snuggling down with you and listening to the tales. You can get lost in books for hours so this one is a good one, and it’s a quiet one! You can always theme your whole day around the books you read, so try some Gruffalo drawings, Harry Potter modelling or have a Very Hungry Caterpillar picnic.
Go for kids printables
You can print out colouring sheets, puzzles, word searches, dot to dots and more on practically any subject. If your child is into unicorns, there will be printables. If your child is all about Super Mario, there will be printables. Just search for their favourite characters or visit a website that offers hundreds of ideas and spend some time completing them.
Get out into the garden
There’s no end of fun to be had outside. From playing football to chasing bubbles to gardening, the garden presents hundreds of opportunities. Plant some seeds, harvest some raspberries, dig holes, make a mud kitchen, race up and down on space hoppers, play hide and seek, the possibilities are endless. The great thing about the garden is that you are also likely to be more comfortable with mess and chaos taking place outside, so get those paints out and leave them to it!
