Having fun with Baby Shark games – review and giveaway (AD)
If you have young children then I can guarantee that at some point over the last few years you will have found yourself singing along to the Baby Shark (doo doo doo doo doo) song…..in fact I probably have you singing it right now *sorry about that*.
For those of you who may have been living under a rock, Baby Shark has taken the nation – and in fact the world – by storm. A short, animated song by Pink Fong, the good news for little ones is they now have a range of toys to prolong the fun. We were sent a few bits of the range to try out and this is what we thought.
Wooden Sound Puzzle
First up we have the wooden sound puzzle. Containing bright, colourful and chunky wooden shapes, this is great for little hands. As you fit each of the characters into their spaces, it triggers the popular baby shark song character by character. Place Daddy Shark in his place and his verse of the song in played and the same goes for Mommy Shark, Grandma Shark, Grandpa Shark, and of course, Baby Shark. This means that you can place them all in the ‘correct’ order to mimic the song or make up your own order.
This is a really cute toy that will help little ones with their colours, shape recognition and of course sound sequencing. Initially I thought this would be too young for my two at aged 3 and 4, but I have to admit that my 3-year-old LOVES it. So much so that the Daddy Shark shape has come most places with us since we were sent it.
The wooden sound puzzle requires two AAA batteries that aren’t included so be sure to pick some up when ordering.
Let’s Go Hunt Fishing Game
This was more up the Bear’s street. The Let’s Go Hunt fishing game is a Baby Shark variation on a classic. Containing the board, 4 colourful fishing poles and 15 fish in 3 different colours, the aim if the game is to catch all the fish as the board spins. What makes this different from other fishing games is that as it spins, it plays the Baby Shark song.
For 2 – 4 players and best suited for ages 4 and up, this really is a fun Baby Shark twist on an old classic. Something that Darcie had a great time playing. The design of fishing rods made catching the fish a lot easier than the usual hinged designs I’ve seen elsewhere which means that Henry also had a great time giving it a go despite the 4+ age recommendation.
As I watched both kids play, I could see a good number of skills at work here. Hand eye coordination, colour recognition and sequencing to name but a few. So, despite Henry needing to cheat a little to get as many fish out of the water as they pop up and open their mouths ready for catching with the rod, I could still see him putting these skills to use and slowly figuring it all out.
Darcie however took to it like a shark to water (see what I did there?!?) and enjoyed catching all the fish in very strict colour order!
Again, this game doesn’t have batteries included so you’ll need to make sure you have two AA’s in stock to be able to get started.
Both games are available now to buy on Amazon (affiliate links).
