5 ways to keep your home warm this winter
It’s that time of year when things are starting to get really cold. This final stretch before signs of spring arrive can feel bleak and many of us start to hibernate indoors. The key to keeping our homes cosy in winter though is keeping them warm!
Here are 5 ways that you can help do exactly that.
Underfloor heating
I love wooden floors but the thought of them in winter can be enough to put some people off. It needn’t be cold though, as there are so many underfloor heating options available now. Enough to ensure your feet remain warm all winter through!

And if underfloor heating isn’t for you, then adding a rug can work wonders to ensure a wooden floor stays warm in the winter.
Block out draughts
Inefficient windows and doors are awful for losing heat from the home. Insulating tape around the window and draught excluders on both windows and doors are very simple steps but can make a massive difference to both how warm your home is and to your energy bills!
You could even try making your own! There are so many patterns available online and in all styles to suit any taste.
Soft furnishings
Soft furnishings go a long way to ensuring that your home remains warm throughout winter. A few throws placed on the sofa within easy reach can help to keep the chill off.

It is also key to ensure that you draw your curtains in the winter too as a lot of heat is lost from windows and curtains go a long way to ensuring this heat does not escape from your home.
Move your sofa
Many times, over the years I have put our sofa directly in front of radiators. Unfortunately though, although it may look good most of the heat becomes absorbed into the furniture rather than heating the room.
Moving the sofa out and away, will ensure that none of this heat is lost. A very simple solution but one that will make a big difference.
Look after your boiler
This one is simple really but so many of us don’t have our boilers serviced annually. If we want our homes to be heated both efficiently and reliably then we need to ensure that our boilers are well maintained and working as efficiently as possible. That also means knowing when it’s time to replace it too. Yes it’s expensive, but can you imagine what it would be like to not have your boiler in winter?
There we have it, 5 ways to keep your home warm this winter. I hope it helps.
