(another) new start, back to school and even more LFT’s – 2/52 | 2022
I’ve missed this little corner of the internet to use as a creative outlet / echo chamber of my random thought so this year I wanted to restart the habit of keeping a kind of virtual diary. We’re already in week 2 though and this is my first post, so a 50% success rate may be indicative as to how the rest of 2022 may go. I hope not!
So, last week saw us getting back to old routines. Me to work and the kids to school. What was new though was that on Saturday I went along to a recruitment open day. A long story but the short version is that I wanted to do some benchmarking. 15 minutes in and I was sat at the table with a 20-something with eyelashes so big that they were most likely causing a tornado halfway across the world. A sweet, chatty person, she was also incredibly reassuring. Letting me know that she understands how scary it can be picking up a ringing phone and the best thing to do is just do it.
If you’re wondering when it was that I first uttered the words made famous by Danny Glover – I’m too old for this shit – it was around 10:20am on Saturday 15th January 2022.
In other news, we managed 3 whole days back at school before we were pinged and daily lateral flow tests commenced for the children. We’re clear so far and – fingers crossed – it stays that way. It feels inevitable at this stage that one – or all of us – will end up catching it again, but we’re desperately hoping we can avoid it for as long as possible. Now the kids are back at school though, it feels like we’re on borrowed time.
It is great that the kids are back though and that their clubs have restarted too. As much as The Bear desperately wants to stay home for mummy’s school, they need the structure and routine of a proper learning environment and the social setting for them.
Finally, in operation move more and eat less, it’s been a challenging week. Low energy, low mood and nights out meant that it hasn’t been the healthiest of weeks but I still managed to drop a kilo, which to be honest is nothing short of a miracle! I know wanted to lose weight is incredibly unfashionable right now and if you’re a plus size queen who is rocking her style and comfortable in her own body then that’s fricking awesome. You’re amazing and I want to be you when I grow up.
My reality is a little more mundane though as I’m looking down the barrel of 40 and simple unhappy with how I look and feel. 2022 is the year that I plan to do something about that. Emphasis on positive mind but if I can follow that up with postive changes to my body too then that would make me a very happy mummy.
