How to Raise an Environmentally Conscious Child
This is a collaborative post. Thank you for supporting the posts which make this blog possible.
In recent years, the effects of global warming and other environmental issues have been a strong focus in the media, making it difficult for us to shy away from such matters. With that said, it would hurt to find ways to encourage your child to be more environmentally conscious, using the following advice from an independent school in Surrey.

Spend Time Outdoors
Your child will find it difficult to respect the environment if they don’t have the opportunity to experience the wonders of the great outdoors. With this in mind, be sure to take them for walks in the woods, fossil hunting at the coast, and planting seeds in the garden. The trick is to help them appreciate nature so that they eventually feel more passionate about protecting it.
Talk About Global Warming
Help your child understand the impact of human behaviour on the environment. Talk to them about why electric cars are better than petrol, and what happens to our household waste when we don’t recycle it. Show them documentaries about what is happening to animals and other wildlife all around the world as a result of our carelessness. This should encourage them to make better, more conscious choices going forward.
Reduce Energy Consumption
Make sure your child turns off the lights when they leave a room and switches their chargers off when their devices have full battery. Help them understand why it is important to be mindful of how much energy you are using in the house, not only in terms of the environment but also in terms of your utility bills.
Teach Them to Recycle
Show your child how to separate household waste into different recyclable categories and teach them why this is important. However, recycling doesn’t just have to be in reference to your rubbish; you can also teach your child what to do with old clothes that no longer fit or outdated furniture. Throwing things away is rarely the best thing you can do with old items.
