Teaching Your Child to Overcome Obstacles
This is a collaborative post. Thank you for supporting the posts which make this blog possible.
Overcoming obstacles is something we all become more used to as we grow older. It helps us get used to whatever life throws at us, and for kids it’s even more important to pick up on being resilient and focused. To teach our children how to solve problems and face adversity in a healthy way, here are some top tips from this independent school in Harrow.

Give your child the right tools to succeed
A child that knows how to fix the most common issues will already have an awareness of their resilience, respect and compassion for others. Give them reasonable judgement for their work and see how they get on, and also remember to figure things out for themselves where they can.
Be a role model
Children look to us for a lot of things in life, especially when we guide them through a lot of things throughout their growth. They look to us for support almost all of the time. With that in mind we should always be looking for ways to improve our relationship with our children by supporting them through all that they learn. Show clear examples of how you can help your child with their obstacles and what they can do to handle each one as they arise.
Don’t let your child give up
Your child may be trying to master something on their bike and keep falling off, which can be demoralising for anyone learning to ride a bike. Remind them to get back on their feet and tackle it as best as they can until they get it right. Practice makes perfect.
Reinforce practice
A child that keeps practicing and trying different problems to overcome is going to be more able to handle their issues. Repeating the same exercise over and over can make it more solid in their mind and continue to act that way when they face a range of different issues.
