Brown Moss | Shropshire
Located just 2 miles outside of Whitchurch, Brown Moss is a Local Nature Reserve and Countryside Heritage Site which is open to the public year round. Filled with heathland and gorgeous marshes, it is a great place to explore.
What is Brown Moss?
This 77 acre side contains a number of self-guided circular routes which are well walked and easy to navigate. All routes are circular so just find a path and follow it round. As it is a protected site though, people are encouraged to keep to the pathways and avoid the water edge so not to disturb some of the 200 species of rare plants which call Brown Moss home. There are also 30 species of breeding birds at the site so keep your eyes open to spot some jays, woodpeckers, Canadian geese and mallards to name but a few.
Woo
It’s a gorgeous location which changes seasonally. The terrain is fairly flat which means its a nice easy walk. It also has some lovely variation with a lovely mix of marshes, pools and woodland.
Boo
Access to the location is down single track lanes which can make passing a little tricky if you encounter someone coming the other way. Not quite a negative but it is incredibly muddy at Brown Moss so you WILL need wellies. We tend to keep ours in the boot of the car so it’s not a problem but it’s just a warning that this is a walk that you will need to be prepared for.
Parking at Brown Moss
There is a small car park which is free and open year round.
Location
Brown Moss is located 2 miles south of Whitchurch near to the A41. Postcode: SY13 4BX.
AD gifted – it’s been asked a few times over on Instagram so just to add that the children are wearing fleeces and hats gifted to them from Lighthouse Clothing. I am more than happy to recommend them as we found their range to be bright, beautiful, soft, warm and snuggly.
