Yoto: official World Book Day partner
AD | affiliate partner. Did you know that Yoto is the Official Audio Partner of World Book Day 2023? If you follow the blog at all then you know that we are massive fans of Yoto, the children’s screen free player which has no camera, no microphone and – most importantly – no ads! What it does have though is plenty of audio adventures for toddlers, children and teenagers.
What is an Audio Partner?
Well, the ‘Official Audio Partner’ title is actually the first of its kind for World Book Day and I absolutely love that it recognises that part that aural storytelling and audiobooks can play in improving reading skills and building a love of reading in children.
What are Yoto doing to celebrate?
Well, how about some free chapters? You can log onto the Yoto app and find free chapters to listen to from The Boy Who Grew Dragons (Chapter 1: Battle on the Bongle), Jolley-Rogers and the Monster’s Gold (Chapter 1: Bottles), The Hodgeheg and Other Stories (Chapter 1), Roald’s Dahl’s Matilda (Chapter 1). All have been carefully selected by the Yoto and World Book Day teams. You will even find a full free story available from Fearless Fairy Tales – Story 1: Sleeping Brainy and a Wake Up Meditations – Sunrise Stretch activity from the Mindfulness for Children audiobook.
That’s not all though, as Yoto have also selected a short list of 35 Yoto Cards which they will donate £1 from every one sold during the World Book Day period (Feb 16th-March 23rd 2023). The list includes much loved stories such as The Gruffalo, Disney’s Encanto, The Tale of Peter Rabbit and other stories and The Elmer Collection.
Why reading is important
I love World Book Day. Anything that will encourage children celebrate a love of books and stories is never going to be a bad thing and even as an adult, I love getting involved. It enhances our imaginations, our creativity and our vocabulary and according to the OECD, reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success. That’s a massive thing for something that can be so easily introduced to our children’s lives.
Which is why I am so excited about this collaboration with Yoto, as not every child has an immediate connection with the written word. Some need additional support and some simply are not engaged in that way, but audio books allow even more children to access books and explore new worlds and adventures, opening up a new range of possibilities for them.
Surely that can never be a bad thing.
