Finding Treasure Island Book Tour
AD | book tour – I love a classic and I love a retelling too, or even better. A brand new story inspired by a classic which is exactly what you get with Finding Treasure Island. An utter gem of a book, this is one I will read time and time again both on my own and with my children and it genuinely does appeal to us all.
THE BLURB
A summer that will change lives forever
The Highlands, 1881
A boy seeking a father…
A girl seeking treasure…
A writer seeking a story…
When Robert Louis Stevenson sketches a map to amuse his stepson Sam, it sets them off on the adventure of a lifetime.
While Stevenson is inspired to write his first great story, Sam has a treasure hunt of his own to pursue, guided through the hidden forests and dangerous glens of the Cairngorms by the mystical Jen Hawkins.
Finding Treasure Island is the missing memoir of Sam Osbourne, which reveals his part in the birth of the greatest adventure story written.
WHAT I THOUGHT ABOUT FINDING TREASURE ISLAND
I honestly loved everything about this book. From its beautiful cover to its nostalgic blurb, and every page in between. I mean:
A boy seeking a father…
A girl seeking treasure…
A writer seeking a story…
How gorgeous does that sound?!
Finding Treasure Island reads just like a Stevenson novel – not just for children, not just for adults but an adventure story for everyone. Maybe it’s because I love Stevenson’s novels that the intertextuality appealed to me so much, but I don’t know how anyone who enjoyed Treasure Island wouldn’t also love Finding Treasure Island.
Sam, Luly, and Jen were given so much depth that you could see this being a part of their story and I just loved how Sam’s story was slotted in the middle of such a brilliant foreword and afterword, giving the plausibility of this story even more life.
As for the story itself, anyone who has experienced that one idyllic summer in their childhood where you explored and adventure filled your soul will resonate with Finding Treasure Island. As that is exactly what Sam experienced. Although set in 1881 when Treasure Island was being written – inspired by Sam and Jen if Finding Treasure Island is to be believed – this story could be set in any decade, as at its core is a story of adventure which is timeless.
