It All Started With A Lie by Denise Brown
AD | book tour – this post starts a bit of a month long rush of book tours. I over committed a little to reviewing a books with PR’s not realising that they ALL fell in March. What it does mean though is that I’ve had a BRILLIANT February reading some pretty great books and It All Started with a Lie by Denise Brown is one of the best ones I’ve ready in a while.
THE BLURB
When Pearl discovers a newspaper clipping showing a picture of her dad holding the baby he found abandoned outside a hospital, it sets off a chain of events of betrayal, obsession, murder. And it all started with a lie.
WHAT I THOUGHT
Now this one is NOT what I thought it was going to be. For some reason I completely missed that it was a YA book so imagine my surprise when four 16 year old’s became the main characters. I was so pleasantly surprised though as It All Started with a Lie is nothing short of brilliant and the reason I used to love YA books.
Pearl, Danny, Leon and Samantha are all great characters and some of the things that they do are easily forgiven because they’re kids after all. But good kids who just want to make sure that Pearl was not the baby found on the doorstep of a hospital 16 years ago. As they start asking questions though, they uncover so much more. A murder, lies, a long lost relative and an arson attack.
It All Started with a Lie is a page turning blend of ‘whodunnit’ mixed with childhood innocence and friendship. One that is so well written with great pace, that it just flows through the pages and takes you on a journey with Pearl and her friends.
DISCLOSURE: I was provided with a copy of It All Started with a Lie for the purposes of this book tour. As usual though, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
