The Rewilders by Lindsay Littleson | AD
I’m a massive fan of Cranachan Publishing which is an independent publishing house based in Scotland. They’ve published some of my favourite books from the last few years including the Four Treasures series from Caroline Logan.
So, when they asked me if I wanted to jump on their latest blog tour to celebrate The Rewilders by Lindsay Littleson, I couldn’t wait to get involved despite it being a Children’s book. As in my experience, a well written children’s book can be filled with so much wonder, making them a delight to read.
I wasn’t disappointed, as I found The Rewilders was an absolute gem of a book.
SYNOPSIS
Esme is annoyed and braced for boredom when she’s sent to stay with her gran for the weekend, until she discovers a terrible mistake. Cora, the abandoned kitten Gran found on the Rothiecraig Estate, is in fact a wild lynx kit and she is growing—fast!
Suddenly, Esme find herself on a dangerous mission to rewild Cora, along with Callum Docherty for company, the school’s ‘bad boy’, and Shug, the worst guard dog in the world.
The situation takes a terrifying turn when the children pitch their tents on a bleak Highland moor and hear wolves howling outside…
WHAT I THOUGHT
When Esme is sent to stay with her Gran for the weekend, the last thing she expects is to be sent on an adventure to return a wild lynx to her family on the Rothiecraig Estate. She especially didn’t expect to be sent on the journey with the schools “bad boy”, Callum.
With every step though their journey becomes one of discovery, as Cora – the wild lynx – learns what it is to be a wild animal in rural Scotland, Esme learns who she is and the uncomfortable role she plays alongside the school bully and Callum learns to let down his guard and to make the first tentative steps towards friendship.
Beautifully written, The Rewilders is a delightful mix of adventure, friendship, and conservation. It is unafraid to touch on difficult topics such as bullying and fostering but does so in such a sympathetic manner.
I know they say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but I can’t review The Rewilders without talking about the illustrations as they are simply beautiful. Stunning wraparound cover with a gorgeous orange page edging, it is a sensory delight to read.
Read in one day, The Rewilders left me wanting to know what happened when Esme and Callum made it back to school on Tuesday. Targeted at 8-12 year old’s, I can’t wait to read this one with The Bear in a few years.
Published by Cranachan Publishing, The Rewilders is available to buy now. And if you’re interested to find out more, be sure to check out some of the other stops on the tour.
DISCLOSURE: I was sent a copy of The Rewilders for the purposes of this review. As always though, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
