1. Orienteering
Something that works well with kids is orienteering. This involves looking at a map and following coordinates to find points of importance or even hidden treasure. Ask your child to treat it like a treasure hunt; follow the way the map takes them and what reward they will receive at the end.
2. Cycling
An activity like cycling tests your child’s ability to focus, as well as learning how to keep themselves balanced on their bike as they keep their eyes on the road or pavement, being courteous towards others. Cycling also improves their fitness, benefits a healthy lifestyle, and aids in muscle growth and strength.
3. Forest school activities
Some schools provide a forest school, or lessons in some form applied to the great outdoors. This gives children a new way to test themselves while also allowing themselves to open their mind and work well in a large team. Forest schools are continually recommended by parents for their benefits to children.
4. Gardening
To get your child stuck in with planting, digging, turning and harvesting, why not try gardening? A range of skills are being tested when someone is gardening, including critical thinking skills and a greater enhancement of a child’s fine motor skills.
5. Water play
Something that’s always fun for the whole family, and is a great activity in the summer, is water play. Water in its usual form is a very thin liquid that can travel in many different directions. With a large body of water however this can easily change its state. Children can experiment with cups, fans, their own hands and many other tools to show them how gravity and different amounts of water can impact how it feels to others.
