Exploring STEM Subjects With Your Child
This is a collaborative post. Thank you for supporting the posts which make this blog possible.
STEM subjects refer to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – four areas that are touched upon a lot more in schools across the UK. They’re seen as important subjects for children to at least take part in and understand to a certain degree that could eventually bring about a new passion for children, as well as advancing a lot of skills.
This private school from Somerset we take a look at the ways you can explore STEM subjects with your child when they’re not at school, and how you can help them understand the world of science and maths in fun ways.

Do science experiments in the house
You can make a host of small experiments in the house with just a few handy ingredients you probably have in your kitchen cupboard. A firm favourite is the vinegar and baking powder volcano, but you can also try mentos and coke, using different food colourings and crystalising liquids.
Buy a car making kit
You can get all sorts of kits that challenge a child in unique ways by building a small electric powered car. Your child will get to grips with connecting a battery in a quick and easy way and customising the front part of the car to their own desire. Remote controlled car toys are also a good way of showing your child how technology can work in action with the ease of adding a battery in a small machine.
Arrange a baking lesson
Kids love getting mucky and a good way to do this is getting all the baking gear out. Buy a cake kit or get the ingredients separately and let your child choose what they want to make – from cupcakes to cookies. They’re testing their cooking and measuring skills to time the cooking right, which is in essence a different way of doing a science experiment!
