In a child’s school years they’re learning their first steps, right up to key parts of their education and life skills. Lifestyle choices and habits can be of great consequence if they become a big part of a child’s beliefs, behaviour and performance in school. Diet and nutrition
While a healthy diet is key to maintaining weight, it also makes for a better immune system, a balance of good nutrients in your diet and improved health. Having a diet that boasts a variety of fruits, vegetables and grains means your child will have a better sleeping pattern, reduced amounts of sugar and fat in their diet and a healthier mind. While junk food is okay in small doses, they’re usually high in sugar, salt and fats, which can hinder a child’s performance at school.
Sleep routine
Going to bed late is already a recipe for disaster. A tired child can be irritable, unfocused and overwhelmed with the day they have ahead of them. Ensure they get a good night’s rest and take their eyes away from phone screens, computers and TVs. A good habit to get into is by reading a few pages of a book before bed to help them get settled.
Fitness and other pursuits
Having a regular regime of exercise and hobbies can keep a child focused, happy and healthy. Sports and team-based exercises are great for children to work on their delegation, problem solving skills and is also a great way of taking your child away from stressful situations and can regroup to collect their thoughts. Mental health is crucial to a child’s development and they’re able to be more focused and more positive throughout their school life if they have a chance to turn off and take a break from their studies.
