How to Raise an Inquisitive Child
This is a collaborative post. Thank you for supporting the posts which make this blog possible.
Curiosity is the gateway to uncovering more knowledge and can help your child achieve developmental and academic success. As parents, we must nurture all fact-finding behaviour and guide them along this journey. We have partnered with a boarding school in London to share tips on how to raise an inquisitive child.

Question of The Day
Asking your child an intriguing and unique question every day can help them to build a natural inquisitive tendency while learning more in the process. To do this successfully, select questions related to topics of interest. Questions could be around fossils if your child is interested in dinosaurs or the latest UFO sighting if space is more their thing.
Be Welcoming of Questions
Rather than dismissing or forgetting about a question that your child has asked you, try your best to answer it or suggest that you both find out together. This will help your child to build a positive association with asking questions as opposed to suppressing their curiosity.
Avoid Lying
Lying to save face when not knowing the answer to a question can cause more damage than good. If you don’t have the answer to a question you can do one of the following.
- Set your child on the task to find out.
- Flip the question by asking them instead while you think of a suitable answer.
Invest in Engaging Learning Resources
Taking your child to the bookstore or the library to find books that interest them can push their curiosity further. It’s important to replenish their learning resources so that they can continue to learn new things and remain engaged in their passions. A bookstore is also a good place to discover new authors and quiz employees that are more knowledgeable about the subject.
When selecting books, look for those that require a similar reading ability to what your child reads at school to make this process as easy as possible.
