The Importance of Music in Early Child Development
This is a collaborative post. Thank you for supporting the posts which make this blog possible.
Many nurseries across the UK, just like this Nursery in Esher, have music development in their curriculum to get children used to the sounds and melodies they’ll be hearing from a young age. There are many benefits to showing your child the world of music from an early age, and here are some key reasons why it’s so important.

Helps your child’s coordination
Physical coordination is what helps us get around and how we get from A to B as adults, but when we’re toddlers this is an entirely new concept that will slowly become commonplace. Music helps your child with this – the beat and the actions your child can do to tap along to the song. Lots of babies and toddlers will clap along to the song and get into the groove as you play all sorts of different tunes and songs.
Helps your child with their memory skills
Having a memory of each melody and tune is going to come way before they remember the words from each song. But this will be their first step towards improving their understanding of songs and how they will help them learn new things. With repeated connection to these songs they’re going to be a lot more likely to remember them and improve on their core memory skills. That will be an essential skill for them growing up.
Gives your child the first taste of different music and their genres
It’s arguably a good time for your child to learn about what different kinds of music are out there. At toddler age your child is going to be listening to the same types of music to get them to grasp their vocabulary and be able to talk, but this will improve as they get older. Then you can introduce lots of new ways to get children learning and appreciating music with their various genres.
