What does my child learn in PSHCE lessons in school?
This is a collaborative post. Thank you for supporting the posts which make this blog possible.
PSHCE stands for personal, social, health, economic and citizenship and is also commonly known as PSHE. It is an important part of your child’s education and is widely taught in the national curriculum. When it comes to teaching children PSHCE, there are three themes that are followed. Health, relationships and economic wellbeing. So, what does it cover and what does your child gain from it? Advised by a private girl’s school in Manchester, here is a guide on what your child learns in PSHCE lessons in school.

Health
This area teaches children what a healthy lifestyle is and how to maintain the right physical, mental and emotional health. They will also be taught how to manage different changes to the mind and body and how to handle new emotions. Schools also teach children the importance of personal hygiene as well as how to be safe on the streets and online. Stranger danger is stressed heavily in schools which is why this is an important aspect of health and wellbeing.
Relationships
This teaches students how to develop and maintain different types of relationships. It also shows them how to respond to abuse in relationship and avoid toxic people. Respecting equality and diversity in relationships is a universal belief which is why it is taught to children from a young age. Children will grow to learn that their behaviour affects other people and the best way to maintain healthy relationships is to communicate and put in time and effort.
Economic wellbeing and living in the world
Through this, children learn how to respect themselves and others around them as well as taking responsibility for their own actions. They will also learn about different cultures and communities across the world as well as how and why money is so important. These are taught through citizenship lessons.
This type of education is mainly taught through science, Geography, ICT, PE and Citizenship and is one of the most important aspects when it comes to school.
