5 tips for your family house move
This is a collaborative post. Thank you for supporting the posts which make this blog possible.
Is there anything more stressful than moving house?
Probably, but it’s definitely up there on the list of challenges many of us would gladly do without.
It’s all worth it in the end, but once you’ve overcome the barriers of house-hunting, navigating estate agents, finding a buyer for your own home and finally setting a moving date, then awaits the job of actually transitioning to your new home.
It can be a complicated process, but we hope these five tips will help it sail as smoothly as possible.

1. Hire removal services
Don’t feel like doing all the hard work? Get someone to do it all for you!
With a service like Britannia Movers, you can have someone come over a day or two before the move to help with your packing and have everything ready for the big day. This way, you won’t need to stress about whether the fine china and family heirlooms are adequately bubble-wrapped – when you leave it to the professionals, you’ll rest easy in the knowledge that your possessions are in safe hands.
It might cost a little extra but for the hassle it saves? It’s well worth it.
2. Redirect your post
Royal Mail’s redirection service is one of the most convenient tricks out there for house movers.
They’ll quite literally send your post to your new address for as long as you need – you can take out a 3 month, 6 month or 12 month redirection while you get addresses changed with all relevant parties, and even add multiple names so everyone’s post will be on the same redirection.
It’s a simple time-saver and won’t cost too much either.
3. Take out the trash
When moving house, you might need some help to get rid of clutter – either your own, or that left behind by the previous homeowners.
Thankfully, whatever you need rid of, there are services to assist no matter how specific – from local councils who can get rid of old mattresses, to stairlift removal specialists like We Buy Any Stairlift.
You never know what you might find in your new home, but it’s always good to know there are people that can help you get rid of the more cumbersome items.
4. Keep the kids entertained
Our little ones are a joy to have around… most of the time.
However, with the stress of moving day, you might want to keep them somewhat out of the way.
If you have children or pets, it might be a good idea to hire a sitter for a few hours.
5. Introduce yourself
It may seem like a small thing but getting to know your neighbours can be a real feather in your cap.
Taking a box of chocolates or tin of biscuits is a lovely way to introduce yourself, and a local ally can be great if you need anyone to feed the cat while you’re away or take in your parcels while you’re at work!
If you’re set to move house soon, we hope these five tips have helped you plan your move!
