How to Improve Your Home During Lockdown
This is a collaborative post which has been placed on this blog. Thank you for supporting the posts which make this blog possible.
Lockdown isn’t easy for anyone, but with the right perspective and outlook you can use the experience to prove your home and your life. Because we are spending so much time in our homes at the moment, it’s the ideal time to get in tune with it. Engage your creative side and make the changes you’ve been intending to make for some time.
Change Your Colours
Spending so much time in our homes means we get tired more quickly of the same old surroundings. Especially the colours of your walls in the living room and kitchen. Luckily, wall colour is one of the easiest things to change, and one of the most enjoyable – especially in lockdown.
The colours you choose will largely depend on your tastes and sensibility. Since kitchen spaces are usually white and nondescript, make it more interesting with coloured tiles. In the living room you might use an accent wall to bring a new dimension to the space.
Be Eco-Conscious
Another aspect of lockdown life is our overall health and wellbeing. Staying indoors all the time means we have to work extra hard to maintain optimal levels of wellness, this might be through meditation, exercise, or crafting.
However, we also need to make sure the air we breathe is clean and of a good quality. One way to do this is to introduce air purifying plants into the home. These are plants such as spider plants, rubber plants, and ferns. They absorb the carbon dioxide you breathe and replace it with oxygen.
Make Neater Spaces
The lockdown situation probably won’t loosen this winter, and even after that we may be in the grip of restrictions for some time after. To make the most of this situation think about your home creatively. How can you use the space you have more efficiently?
If you have a large cupboard full of clutter, now might be the best time to clear it out and repurchase it. You could make it into a home office. Then think about your garden, some Landscaping could transform it into another communal space for the better weather coming in.
Introduce Technology
The internet of things is the idea that your home is completely integrated with smart technology. Your fridge, televisions, security system, alarm clock, and even bathroom mirrors all have information about your lifestyle that help make life easier for you.
This complete integration might still be some way off, but you can start the ball rolling by embracing the new technology when it comes along. Replace your incandescent bulbs with LED lighting and install a smart meter for your electricity. These are easy things to do during home lockdown.
The Personal Touch
Some years ago there was always a big trend towards minimalist furniture in the style of IKEA. The Scandinavian furniture giant convinced the world that flat packed non descript prices were the way to go. While still convenient and popular, flat packed furniture is not always personalised enough.
That doesn’t mean you can’t make it your own. In fact, flat packed furniture is perfect for redesigning and personalising. During your lockdown, order some paints for the internet and bring your furniture back to life.
