Make your own gingerbread men
With Christmas right around the corner, we have for one last Christmas craft. We recently made a stack of gingerbread people using a lovely cinnamon dough recipe.
The good news about this is that is smells amazing, and continues to do so year on year.
WHAT YOU NEED
This is a really simple recipe where you only need 3 ingredients
For the dough
- 1 cup cinammon
- 1/2 cup apple sauce (smooth with no chunks)
- 1/3 cup PVA glue
To make up your decorations
- rolling pin
- gingerbread cookie cutters
- metal straw or similar shape
- ribbon
- white paint
HOW TO MAKE YOUR GINGERBREAD MEN
First up, add the apple sauce to the cinnamon and mix well until you have a kind of grainy texture. Add the PVA glue and again, mix well. You may need to kneed your dough at this stage to get a nicely bound mixture.
Roll out your dough until it’s around 1cm thick and cut out your gingerbread shapes. Then – using your metal straw – make a hole for string / ribbon to hang it with.
Bake on a low heat – around 90 C – for an hour (30 minutes each side). From here on out, decoration is up to you.
I personally used a scrap piece of sanding paper to smooth the edges and then decorated with a little while acrylic paint. I finished it off with some modge podge to seal.
And there we have it, gingerbread men decorations. Ready just in time for Christmas.
