Concrete Planter Kit – GIVEAWAY
Anyone who’s a regular reader of the blog will know that I love a bit of crafting! So when the opportunity came up to take a closer look at a Crafty Creative subscription box, I jumped at the chance. So, I was very excited when a week later a Concrete Planter Kit dropped through the door.
Now, I’m more of a knitter, sewer, papercraft kinda girl so when this first came through I’m not ashamed to say that I was initially intimidated. What on earth do I know about making my own plant pot?! However, the instructions were so easily laid out and it seemed so easy to follow, I jumped straight in!
First of all the kit contained everything I needed for my pot: the concrete mix, two pots, some sandpaper, a stirrer, a little paintbrush, some bronze paint, some tape and a pair of gloves to help keep yourself clean!
The first step was to make a little mark in the big pot to see where to set the concrete to, then I put 80ml of water into said big pot and mixed in the concrete mix. Using my stirrer, I mixed it until I had a smooth paste (1). Then using the smaller cup, I pushed this into the mix until the mixture rose up to meet the mark I made earlier. Adding some stones for weight so it didn’t rise, I left it to set for 24 hours (2).
A day later and I was back and removing the little cups. What I was left with was a still damp pot but definitely a pot nonetheless, and by this point I was pretty excited to see it taking shape with pretty much minimal effort so far! I then left it for another few days until it was completely dry and a light grey in colour all over.
Now it was time for the fun stuff! First I needed to use the sandpaper and curve off the edges for a smoother and nicer finish (3). Once done it was time to paint. I’m not great with a paintbrush so I wanted to keep it simple with some bold block colours. Therefore, blocking off the centre stripe with tape (4), I painted both the top and bottom sections still on show as well as inside and underneath because I’m a little odd like that and like the little details!
And there we have it….a finished little pot ready for planting.
I have to say I am so pleased with how this came out, it was far easier than I thought it would be. Except for the drying time, it was also extremely quick to do but I think has a really effective finish. I’ve mentioned it to a few people already, all of which cannot believe that I made it myself.
I even managed to find this cute little succulent at my local supermarket for the bargain price of £3 which fits it perfectly and I think suits this style of planter.
This really is such a quick and easy kit to use, with very clear instructions and put togother in a way that is suitable for beginners. With a beautiful and striking finish, this kit makes something that you can proudly display in your home.

I love being creative with fabric or paper, but always lack confidence to try to make an item out of wood, concrete or metal. This kit looks like a good way to try out using concrete, then I could try some of the other concrete craft ideas I keep seeing on Pinterest.
