A Christmas Gift Guide for Little Ones
Last week it was all about the grown ups. This week though it’s on to the important people at Christmas: the kids. More specifically, this is a gift guide aimed at little ones. I’ve purposefully not split this guide into boys / girls as – although some toys may be more traditionally played with by one gender or the other – this is simply a Christmas gift guide filled with things that I believe young children will enjoy. The age when they play with things simply because they enjoy them.
With that in mind, here are a few ideas for some of the pre-schoolers / early primary age children in your life.
FOR THE LITTLE ONE WHO LOVES TO IMAGINE
One of the toys both our children love is the wooden kitchen that we picked up second hand, but that sees a serious number of hours of play each week. Christmas is the perfect time to add accessories to your kitchen. I love this beautiful JoJo Maman Bebe Picnic Basket with Wooden Food. Not only is it a wonderful addition to any kitchen, but it is also a fantastic standalone toy. The wicker basket works to not only keep everything in one place but is also the perfect carrier to take on outdoor picnic adventures.
FOR THE LITTLE ONE WHO LOVES DINOSAURS
If you’re reading this guide, then I assume you have children. Therefore, you will have heard of the little Fingerling monkeys. The range has expanded since then and now includes dragons, pandas and dinosaurs. More specifically Fingerling Velociraptors. With two modes – tamed and untamed – you choose whether they roar, hiss and chomp or if they nuzzle and purr. Just like the original monkeys, they react to touch and motion and give little ones hours of fun.
FOR THE LITTLE ONE WHO LOVES NATURE
This is a gift for little ones, but also is something the whole family can enjoy. The RSPB keeps it nice and simple by saying ‘let’s give nature a home’, and I couldn’t agree more. We already have a bird box with a small entry hole that a family of blue tits inhabit each summer and the children love watching them come and go. Listening which such amazing concentration at the chirps of the baby birds inside. In contrast this open-front lodge nest box will hopefully attract a different breed of bird into our garden – robins, wrens or pied wagtails according to the RSPB website. The open-front (fingers crossed!) providing a better view of the nesting activities.
FOR THE LITTLE ONE WHO LOVES LITTLE DOLLS
I’ve mentioned LOL Dolls before in my What To Buy A 4 Year Old guide, and this is something that does not seem like it will pass any time soon for us. These three-inch dolls give layers of fun as you uncover layers of accessories to go with your LOL and have been made even more fun recently with the addition of LOL Surprise Pets and LOL Surprise Lil Sisters. They are small, they are cute, and they are fun. So, if your pre-schooler is anything like mine, they will be an instant hit!
FOR THE LITTLE ONE WHO LOVES TO BE CLEAN
ON! Juniper is award-winning small business that creates organic and natural products for kids. The Bear is starting to really enjoy and notice beauty products such as bath bombs and just giggles with glee as they fizz in the bath. These ON! Juniper Colour Bath Bombs are a wonderful stocking filler idea that not only smell fabulous but also tint water green, pink and blue. What’s more they are made using ingredients that does not harm the environment and are economically responsible. Choose from gift box options of a unicorn, a mermaid or a wolf to suit your little one’s tastes.
FOR THE LITTLE ONE WHO LOVES TO MIX THINGS UP
As a reminder, Num Noms work on two levels. First, you have an adorable outer character – the num – who is full of squishy fun. Then you have the inner hard-shelled character – the nom – which holds an added surprise. What the Num Noms Snackables Silly Shakes Maker does it take that to the next level. It contains everything you need to make your very own scented, silly slime shakes. Little ones pick their scent, add some toppings and swirl it all together to then serve (and store) in cute little ‘silly shakes’ cups.
FOR THE LITTLE ONE WHO LOVES A TRUCK
Next, we have something a little more traditional by way of Christmas gifts for little ones. Benny the Bulldozer – available from kiddies-kingdom.com – is not only a radio-controlled truck but he also comes with a construction play set. Children can drive their bulldozer up the ramp to push the rocks into the tube. Once inside, the rocks are then released from the tube at the push of a button. This can be done either manually as a playset, or for older kids Benny comes with a remote control. This is big, chunky and a great introduction to a remote-control vehicle. What is great about Benny though if that he works just as well without it if your little one isn’t quite there yet.
FOR THE LITTLE ONE WHO JUST DOESN’T NEED ANY MORE TOYS
Finally, Christmas can also be a great time to stock up on the necessities. Bedding may seem like an odd choice, buy our little ones get genuinely excited over a new duvet set and have their obvious favourites. Don’t get me wrong, they couldn’t care less over block colours without much going on. Give them a fabulous design that’s bold, bright and fun – such as this wonderful transport duvet set from Room to Grow – and they can’t wait to go to bed and snuggle under a brand new set.
