Dietbon weight loss meals: my experience
AD | review
It’s no secret that I’m not happy with my weight. Two children with only 21 months between them, my body has taken a hammering over the last 6 years. However, with the Bear now 5 and Henry 3, it’s time to reclaim my body and fight my way back to a healthier and happier me.
The problem is that I think I’ve forgotten how to eat normally again. This is where Dietbon said that they can help, and I’m eager to give it a go.
WHAT IS DIETBON?
In a nutshell, Dietbon provide weight loss meals delivered to your door alongside telephone consultations with a dietician. All daily meals are delivered to your home. The aim of the plan is to relearn how to follow a balanced diet which is EXACTLY what I needed after years of no structure.
All the meals are portion and calorie controlled taking all of the hard work out of meal planning and preparation for you. What I liked about the meals is that they contain 100% natural ingredients with nothing nasty added to them. Delivered fully cooked and prepared, you just need to heat them through in the microwave and you are ready to eat.
You plan is fully customised according to your preferences but what you get each week are 6 breakfasts, 6 lunches, 6 snacks and 6 dinners. Here’s an example of what a standard day would look like.
Everything you see in bold is provided, and everything else has been added as optional extras, giving you added flexibility to build your days around your hunger levels.
The final 7th day in the week is where the real flexibility comes in though. As on this day you have complete control over what you eat. This allows you to put into practice what you are learning with Dietbon and adopt healthy eating habits which will last you a lifetime. It also allows you to build the plan around your life, easily building in family meals or the occasional treat out. The Dietbon guide to success which you receive in your first delivery is packed full of ideas, recipes and support to help you through this free day.
THE CONSULTATION
First up before you start, you need to have a consultation with a dietician. I really wasn’t sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The call lasted around 40 minutes where we discussed my lifestyle and during this time, she said something which really resonated with me.
She said that how we eat also needs to fit in with the kind of person we are. So, for me – someone who is very organised and structured – I would benefit from planning my meals. Not just meal plans and shopping lists but one step further in terms to what I am going to eat and when.
She helped me recognise that when I am busy with other things, the last thing I want to do is stop and go and figure out what I’m going to eat for lunch. I just don’t have the mental bandwidth to dedicate to something I don’t just enjoy and is purely a functional thing. Instead, I just ignore it or grab convenience.
A little like when you hold your wee too long and then you’re dashing to the loo, desperately trying to stop yourself wetting yourself. You hold it too long and you’re going to end up making yourself poorly. Yes – a disgusting metaphor but that’s what I do! I don’t bother eating and ignore the signs I’m hungry until I finally give in a binge eat all evening. This in turn creates a bucket load filled with feelings of failure and disgust in myself.
Needless to say, that this is not a healthy relationship. So – without a doubt – this is not just able losing weight for me and seeing a different set of numbers on the scales. It’s about changing my habits and giving my mealtimes more structure as well as changing my entire attitude to food.
GETTING STARTED
So, by now I have had my Dietbon consultation and my delivery has just arrived, and I am ready to go!
Included in my rather amazing box of goodies were the following:
12 main meals: creamy vegetarian carrot and coconut soup | Spicy tomato and beef soup |Whole meal salad : Mini farfalle with chicken and sundried tomatoes | Chicken tikka masala with rice and quinoa | Mexican meatballs with pasta vegetables and tomato sauce | Roast chicken fillet with mashed potatoes | sautéed pork with diced vegetables and bacon | Salmon with vegetables and grains and a soya sauce | Chicken fillet with rice and almond sauce | seafood and chicken paella | Conchiglie pacific salmon and spinach | Ravioli stuffed with goat’s cheese pesto with a tomato and tofu sauce | 1 Pack of 8 breakfasts (pancakes) | 1 Pack of 8 snacks (mini lemon cakes) | 1 Pack of 8 desserts (Organic Apple and pear compote) | 28 days of Tea Detox Morning & Night.
As you can see this is a massive list and only a selection of the 60+ meals available providing you with a huge amount of choice.
THE MEALS
Now I’m not going to give you a blow by blow account of what I ate every day because…..well, that would just be boring for everyone involved. I will say though that the meals were a big surprise for me.
I don’t know what I was expecting but it certainly wasn’t the wide range of delicious options available.
Both filling and tasty, I love that you had flexibility build in the plan for days where I needed a little extra. I very rarely needed this though as the meals kept me nice and full until my next meal.
I love the fact that you can fully customise your meals to build a plan that suits you and your tastes. That not all though as you can also add a little boost such a vegetables to your meals should you need it, allowing you to customise it even more.
THE RESULTS
During my week with Dietbon I lost a wonderful 3lbs which was just amazing. I was full during the week and never felt like I was missing out. In fact, I bet it would have been more if we hadn’t of gone out to dinner on my free day.
It’s not just about the numbers on a scale though and the flexibility I had ensured that I could build my diet around my life without feeling like I was missing out. The fact everything was pre-measured and ready to heat (and then eat!) meant that I could easily slot Dietbon into a busy life with minimal impact. Add the to the tea, which was delicious and provided a lovely morning boost and evening calm, and I was a happy bunny for the week.
This was the biggest learning for me. I am a planner and I will always be a planner. Chucking daily decisions over what I am going to eat is only going to have me reaching for quick, easy and high calorie options. Whereas taking that little bit of time in advance to plan my week and structure what I am eating, works for me. It suits my personality and lets me concentrate on what is important to me. So, for that, thank you Dietbon. It’s a lesson in self-awareness that’s going to stay with me for life!!
