My kids love being outside in the back garden and they love nothing more than an outside toy. However, to withstand both the outdoors AND my kids, they need to be sturdy! So when the opportunity came up to put the Cat® outdoor toy range to the test, I had two little helpers on hand to put them through their paces.

So, we set up our tuff tray, grabbed our hard hats and off we went for an afternoon of hard graft

Cat® Steel Dump Truck

I can honestly say this truck is fabulous. At 17 inches, not only is it BIG, but the fact that it is made from steel makes it sturdy enough to last for their entire childhood. In fact, the team from Cat® are so confident about that, it comes with a lifetime guarantee. You can’t get more committed than that can you really.

With chunky wheels and massive bucket alongside the iconic Cat® yellow, my two couldn’t wait to get their hands on it, The kids loved that it came with a tilting payload bucket and loved filling and then unloading it time and time again.

Cat® Construction Fleet Sand Sets

Next up we have the Cat® Construction Fleet Sand Sets. These are a little smaller so they would work well as both an indoor and outdoor toy, though for my two there was never any doubt that they would head straight outside!

Each sand set comes with a 10 inch vehicle, Cat® hard had and shovel/rake set. We were sent both the Dump Truck and Wheel Loader options to try out and I was incredibly impressed with the quality of both. Both vehicles were articulated which delighted both kids as they moved, dug, filled and dumped for the entire afternoon.

We loved that the shovel and rake could be used as separate tools or clipped together to make a single tool.

The Verdict

This is the first time we have owned Cat® toys and I have to say that we are all really impressed. The kids had a great time exploring and digging with them all afternoon, and while admittedly the hats didn’t stay on for very long, I have no doubt that the trucks at least will be dragged into the mud and sand for many years to come.

They may love how much fun they are, but I love how sturdy they feel. Big and chunky enough to take a serious amount of play, I am confident that they will age well. Ready to pass on to the next child when mine have outgrown them.
