Camping at Aberech Sands | North Wales
Last weekend we enjoyed our first weekend away in Luna Lovegood – our old but rather fabulous caravan. For our first trip of the season we found ourselves spending a rather wet and grey bank holiday weekend at Aberech Sands on the North Wales coast.
ABOUT ABERECH SANDS
Located just a few miles outside Pwllheli, Aberech Sands is a great option for people who like a good location with the views and facilities to match.
With flat grass pitches in open spaces and a good number of electric hook up options, Aberech Sands is a site we have returned to a few times since we first discovered it years ago.
FACILITIES AT ABERECH SANDS
There isn’t a lot on the site. A shop that never seems to be open, but what they have in abundance is space. There are some great fields for the kids to free range roam in and the site is literally a stones throw from the beach.
There is a well serviced swimming pool open daily which is brilliant and the kids LOVED. It has a small additional cost of £2 per adult and £1 per child for the pool which is incredibly reasonable. Especially as under 5’s are free.
There is also a small park that – although it’s not very large – it’s big enough to let the kids burn off a little energy while you cook dinner!
Add in a toilet and shower block that has plenty of space and is kept very clean as well as a launderette that visitors can use for a small surcharge, and you have a site that has all the basics covered to a very good standard.
There is no bar or club house on site – which many people find important. Though to be honest it’s not something we ever look for or feel like we need on a camping trip. Preferring instead to relax at the caravan with a drink in our hand once the kids are in bed.
WHAT WE DID NEARBY
Because it was such a grim weekend, we only have one little trip out into Pwllheli to enjoy some – rather delicious – Fish and Chips. They weren’t cheap – £25 for the 4 of us including drinks – but they were freshly battered and cooked in front of us and it tasted AMAZING.
A visit to a few traditional coastal shops where the kids took great delight in fleecing us for more tat that we really don’t need. The result being that we managed to have a nice half day out.
GREAT FOR…
Families with free range kids that like to spend time outside.
WHAT THE BEARS SAID
“Excellent.”
Both said their favourite things about the weekend was spending time together as a family, the swimming pool and the beach. And do you know what, I couldn’t agree more.
