The Cheshire Reindeer Lodge
Last weekend we went to the Cheshire Reindeer Lodge to meet Rudolph and the crew along with the big guy himself. It wasn’t cheap – adults were £9.50 each, children £12.50 and babies free – but it was our first time meeting Father Christmas and I didn’t want to book just a simple grotto if the Bear decided she hated Santa and I’m so glad we did!
On arrival we immediately came in through the stables putting us in the perfect mood for the occasion as we gazed in at some of the reindeer as they rested. We then turned the corner to where the rest were grazing in a field and enjoying being fed by visitors with Reindeer food which was handed out by a few of Santa’s elves.
There were donkeys and a few fairground rides for which we were given 3 tokens per child on arrival – a lovely surprise for as mummies and daddies know this is usually where they sting you! – more tokens were available for purchase but as Darcie is only young, 3 was more than enough. At an additional cost there was also hot drinks, food and sweets along with a handful of photo stations. Plenty to keep us all entertained for an hour before our booked slot.
Before we knew it though it was our turn, but this was more than just a basic sit on Santa’s knee as we were treated to an elf show first which quite frankly was hilarious. The elf choir was struck down with the snuffles and it was up to two crazy elves – with the help from all the boys and girls of course – to get replacements. The show lasted about 30 minutes and had parents laughing and kids captivated. Great fun!
However, it was now time to meet Father Christmas! The queue was split into 2 as we went through a fun little maze which was a great idea and limited the time you spent stood in a queue. We were headed for the library and the big man was perfect….an older gentleman who looked the part and had a lovely little conversation with the kids as they perched on one knee each and were quite frankly confused by the entire occasion and too young to question why Santa was scouse! Gifts were received (a very age appropriate toy for each) and we headed back out to purchase our photos and ‘spend’ the rest of our tokens in the fairground before going to lunch.
THE VERDICT
Just to be clear we were not given tickets in exchange for this review; we researched and paid full price and for us it was worth the money. Only a few £’s more expensive than the Santa only grotto’s near us, this provided an entire mornings entertainment for the entire family. Definitely worth the money and we look forward to going back next year when the kids are a little older.
