5 Winter Activities
It’s cold outside and most days it’s also wet, windy and generally miserable. To combat the horrid weather out there, I like to draw the curtains and pretend that it’s not happening. So, here are my top 5 winter activities. Be warned though, only 1 actually includes any kind of exercise!
CURL UP WITH A GOOD BOOK
I love reading, especially in the winter when it’s cold outside. There’s something comforting about snuggling up in the warm and getting lost in a story. Of course, those days of being able to spend all day doing it are long gone as, you know – kids! However once they’re in bed and you have a few hours spare in the evening, there’s nothing better than cracking the spine on a good book.
GET KNITTING
Fancy trying something a little more active – and by little, I really do mean a little – then why not try knitting? I do enjoy craft hobbies as I love creating things. I’ve tried many things in the past like jigsaws etc but once you’re finished, you’re not left with anything other than the task of taking it back apart again. With knitting – and also sewing, crochet and other craft hobbies – you have fun creating whatever you’re making, and then get something to keep or gift at the end of the process.
NETFLIX AND CHILL
I’m of the generation where Netflix and chill, actually means Netflix and chill. When it’s cold outside, it’s lovely to curl up on the sofa with a hot drink, a warm blanket and snuggle on the sofa. I love any kind of story – whether it’s on the screen or in print – therefore binge watching a TV series or finding a good movie is always a winter winner to me.
MAKE PLANS
I always feel like winter is a great time to look forward and make plans. I’m one of those people who is always looking forward and enjoy making changes. I love sitting down with a good notebook and pen, and making plans. It can be anything from meal plans and cleaning plan to blog ideas and goals. Nothing beats a good list in some good stationery.
GET OUTSIDE AND GO FOR A WALK
However, on that rare occasion that the wet breaks, we rush outside for some fresh air. As long as it’s dry, I always think that you can dress for the cold. Layer up and chuck on the hats, scarfs and gloves and head out to explore. Unfortunately those days seem to be few and far between at this time of year – as we’ve just had a rained off weekend stuck in the house – so you need to grab the clear, dry days whenever they arrive and get out and enjoy it.
There we have it. My top 5 things to do in this winter weather, when it’s cold, dark and generally miserable. January and February can be bleak so it’s all about finding those things you enjoy to see you through these winter months.
What about you? Anything I missed that you enjoy doing at this time of year?

I can relate to all 5 activities in interest, although I find myself often just Netflix and chilling which too means just being in bed and binging on a good series, not quite what teens make it out to be. I would like to get out more for walks especially with my dog and give knitting another go, you’ve inspired me to try again!

There’s nothing better than turning on Netflix and working on your favorite knit/crochet project! Are you working on any knitting projects at the moment? I am trying to start Christmas knitting early.
tippytupps says
I am. Though I’ve been knitting my daughter the same cardigan for months now. It won’t fit by the time I finish I bet!

All great choices! I haven’t had the chance to crochet in ages, so I really need to get back to that asap!
