Book Review – Behind Closed Doors by B A Paris
***TRIGGER WARNING***
This story depicts a very dark relationship.
THE BLURB
Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You might not want to like them, but you do.
You’d like to get to know Grace better.
But it’s difficult, because you realise Jack and Grace are never apart.
Some might call this true love. Others might ask why Grace never answers the phone. Or how she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. And why there are bars on one of the bedroom windows.
Sometimes, the perfect marriage is the perfect lie.
THE REVIEW
I loved this book!
Utterly gripping, Behind Closed Doors follows Grace as her story unfolds. Set both in the present as she struggles with her current situation and in the recent past, as we as readers sit by powerless and watch as she gets herself deeper into trouble. The story seamlessly jumps between the two timelines but both add to the overall atmosphere of the tale and add to the utter dispair that Grace feels throughout.
Although some aspects of the story are pretty far fetched, it does make you think about how you can never judge people by how they appear and makes you wonder what you would do in that situation.
THE VERDICT
I give Behind Closed Doors 4.5 out of 5 stars. A really compelling read that keeps you turning the page, both to understand how she got herself into this position and why on earth she isn’t doing more to get herself out of it. As things become more clear you can’t help but get behind Grace and just will her to just do something.
It dropped half a star due to just how weak Grace is at times. You find yourself getting frustrated with her as the story hints to her spirit, but you don’t actually see it in the present. You do get the impression that this had been worn down over time, but it would still be good to see it in the present so the ending doesn’t seem so much of a stretch.
You can find Behind Closed Doors on Amazon, currently reatailing at £2.99.
My ratings explained:
5/5 – a geat book…go out and read it NOW.
4/5 – a good book…definately worth a download.
3/5 – an ok solid read…not amazing but worth a read if the blurb tickles your fancy.
2/5 – mmm…not the best but not horrendous either.
1/5 – yeah…I’d give this one a miss.
