If I Stay by Gayle Forman
THE BLURB
‘Just listen,’ Adam says with a voice that sounds like shrapnel.’ I open my eyes wide now. I sit up as much as I can. And I listen.
‘Stay,’ he says.
Everybody has to make choices.
Some might break you.
For seventeen-year-old Mia, surrounded by a wonderful family, friends and a gorgeous boyfriend decisions might seem tough, but they’re all about a future full of music and love, a future that’s brimming with hope.
But life can change in an instant.
A cold February morning . . . a snowy road . . . and suddenly all of Mia’s choices are gone. Except one.
As alone as she’ll ever be, Mia must make the most difficult choice of all.
Haunting, heartrending and ultimately life-affirming, If I Stay will make you appreciate all that you have, all that you’ve lost – and all that might be.
If I STAY – MY THOUGHTS
This book. THIS BOOK!
I picked it up second hand having heard it was worth a read. If I’m honest, despite the heavy topic I thought it would be a kind of teenage emo novel written for a love hungry YA audience. Oh my days, it was so much more.
If I Stay follows Mia through the most gut wrenching decision she will ever have to make. It takes you on an emotional rollercoaster that I can guarantee you’re not prepared for, but equally you don’t want to miss. Beautifully told, it draws you in with the tiny little moments which makes life extraordinary and sits you at the dinner table with a beautful family. A family – some related by blood and some not – which is now irrecoverably damaged.
Packed full of so many beautiful relationships, I can’t decide who I love more. Forman has done such an amazing job at capturing those tiny little moments between them all – the touches, the smiles, the looks, and perceptions – which make relationships real. Not just in relation to Mia either, but to each other and in her memories.
If I Stay had me sobbing – and I mean sobbing – on more than one occasion but I just couldn’t stop turning the page. I just had to know what Mia decided.
Regardless of whether this is your preferred genre or not, this one is worth a read. It’ll have you looking at the people in your life, holding them a little tighter and overall appreciating what it is you have.
Be warned though, make sure there are tissues at the ready.
If I Stay is currently available on Amazon for £4.99 for kindle edition and £5.98 for paperback.

Will have to keep an eye out for this, although not sure reading a tear jerker at the moment is a good idea. Will add it to the reading list #humpdaylinky x
